Physics 173 Internet Question of the Week

The Questions

March 9 - March 13, 1998

Question #1:

Use a major search engine (HotBot , Lycos, Alta Vista, Excite, etc.) to conduct an internet search in order to find some information on the physics of two of the following topics:

For two points, write a few short paragraphs in which you discuss the results of your search. To earn the two points on this search question, do the following:

  1. Describe the search path which you used to find the information (see example description).
  2. Describe what you found out about the physics of the topic which you researched (e.g., definitions, description, any mathematical relationships, etc.)
  3. State something which you found interesting about the topic which you researched.
Repeat the above for both of the topics which you chose to research.

(NOTE: as a possible shortcut to information, perhaps you could use our own GBS resources or simply go ask Jeeves.)

Question #2:

If a 1.25-kg bucket of water is attched to a 1-meter long string and swung in a circle with a speed of 5.25 m/s, then what angle will the string make to the horizontal. (Careful: the radius of the circle is not 1-meter.) PSAYW
