Problem 14:

A small car moving with a speed of 12.7 km/hr collides with another vehicle (initially at rest) with 2 times the mass. The two vehicles stick together and move as a single unit. Determine their post-collision speed.

• Read the problem carefully and diagram the physical situation (collision diagram)
• Identify known and unknown information in an organized manner (list on diagram)
• Take the time to plot out a strategy prior to beginning the solution
• Identify an appropriate formula to use (or use a momentum table)
• Perform step-by-step algebraic manipulations
