Problem 1:

A 2013 kg pick-up truck moving with a velocity of 22.76 m/s collides with a 896 kg car which is at rest at a stoplight. What is the magnitude of the velocity (in m/s) of these two vehicles after the collision (assuming they stick together and move as a single object)?

• Read the problem carefully and diagram the physical situation (collision diagram)
• Identify known and unknown information in an organized manner (list on diagram)
• Take the time to plot out a strategy prior to beginning the solution
• Identify an appropriate formula to use (or use a momentum table)
• Perform step-by-step algebraic manipulations
