Unit 3: Motion in Two-Dimensions

Problem Set E

Problem 1:

A 4.55-kg sign is hung using two cables which make an angle of 24.4 degrees with the horizontal. Determine the weight (in Newtons) of the sign.

TIP:

This problem involves a straight-forward calculation of weight from the mass of the object. If you are having difficulty with this problem, it is strongly suggested that you take some time to review the relationship between mass and weight. This is discussed in further detail at The Physics Classroom. This relationship will be utilized through the entirety of Set E.

Further information about the mass-weight relationship is available online at The Physics Classroom.
