**Problem 17:**

A student throws a baseball horizontally out a dorm room window 19.8 m above the ground. Another student standing a distance of 24.4 m from the dorm building catches the baseball at a height of 1.1 m above the ground. What is the initial velocity (in m/s) of the baseball?

- Read the problem carefully and diagram the physical situation (trajectory diagram)
- Identify known and unknown information in an organized manner (x-y table)
- Take the time to plot out a strategy prior to beginning the solution
- Identify an appropriate formula to use
- Perform step-by-step algebraic manipulations
