Physics Quizzes
(199798 School
Year)
Suggestions for this week's quiz
(Unit 6, Quiz #1):
This week's quiz on Unit 6 material
is tentatively scheduled for Friday, January 9. The quiz
will be a onepage quiz, covering both sides of a single
sheet of paper. The equations for net force, frictional
force, gravitational force and speed and acceleration for
circular motion will be provided. Other than a calculator,
no other
helps
will be provided nor allowed. Students can expect the
following concepts, skills, and problemtypes to be assessed
on this quiz:
 An understanding of the motion
characteristics of an object moving in circular motion,
including the vector nature of the velocity, acceleration
and net force. Review of class notes, the Supplementary
Challenges reading, and Sections 13 of Chapter 9 of the
Hewitt book would be good prepartion for this portion of
the quiz.
 An understanding of the
relationship between inertia and circular motion and the
ability to use this understanding to explain why an
object moving in a circle feels as though it is being
forced
outwards (even though we
all know that it isn't). Review of pp. 34 of the packet
and Sections 4 & 5 of Chapter 9 of the Hewitt book
would be good prepartion for this portion of the
quiz.
 An understanding of the
mathematics of circular motion, including the ability to
conduct a force analysis for an object moving in a circle
and to perform computations to solve for the velocity,
acceleration, net force, or individual force values;
problems on pp. 1114 of the unit packet would be good
preparation for this portion of the quiz.
 An understanding of major
concepts discussed in earlier units during this semester.
Studying suggestions for those unit quizzes can be
accessed through the following links.
