Henderson's Regular Physics Quizzes

(1998-99 School Year)

Suggestions for this week's quiz (Unit 5, Quiz#2):

This week's quiz on Unit 5 material is tentatively scheduled for Friday, December 11. The quiz will be a one-page quiz, covering both sides of a single sheet of paper. The equations for net force, frictional force, and gravitational force will be provided. KE, PE, work, and power equations will be provided.Other than a calculator, no other helps will be provided nor allowed. Students can expect the following concepts, skills, and problem-types to be assessed on this quiz:

  1. An understanding of work as a force acting upon an object to cause a displacement; an ability to recognize units of work, to identify whether or not a force does work upon an object, and an ability to perform a simple calculation of the amount of work done by a force upon an object.
  2. An ability to use the kinetic energy and potential energy equations to perform simple computations and to use the work-energy theorem to make connections between the work done upon an object and the initial or final energy state of an object. (See several practice problems and solutions.)
  3. An ability to use initial and final speed and height values and energy-conservation principles to predict the final speed or height of an object if given the description of its motion. (See several practice problems and solutions.)
  4. An ability to construct work-energy bar charts for simple situations involving energy tranformations and conversions.
  5. An understanding of previous concepts from the first several units. Use the links below to see the Studying Suggestions for the Units 1-5 quizzes.
