Suggestions for this week's quiz
(Unit 13 Quiz #1):
This week's quiz on Unit 13
material is tentatively scheduled for Friday, April 17. The
quiz will be a onepage quiz, covering both sides of a
single sheet of paper. The equations for the magnification
ratio and the mirror equation will be given. Students will
need a protractor and ruler. Other than a calculator, no
other
helps
will be provided nor allowed. Students can expect the
following concepts, skills, and problemtypes to be assessed
on this quiz:
An understanding of the law of
reflection and an ability to apply it to an understanding
of how light reflects off surfaces (and especially plane
mirror surfaces) to form images.
 An understanding of what an
image
is and of how it is formed by reflected light.
An ability to locate the image
of an object in a plane mirror and to use a ray diagram
to illustrate how an individual at a given location can
view the image.
 An ability to demonstrate by
means of a ray diagram what portion of a plane mirror
would be required to view the image of an object.
 Distinguish between diffuse and
regular reflection, to explain the cause of each, and to
give an application of each.
 Distinguish between concave and
convex mirrors and be familiar with basic spherical
mirror terminology (center of curvature, focal point,
vertex, focal length, etc.)
 Use ray diagrams to demonstrate
the location of the image of an object in a concave or a
convex mirror; identify the characteristics (enlarged or
reduced in size, inverted or upright, virtual or real) of
such images.
 Distinguish between virtual and
real images in terms of their definitions and their
observable characteristics.
Sample Quizzes (Unit 13
Quiz):
There are several sample quizzes

spherical mirrors.
