(2000-2001 School Year)
Suggestions for this week's quiz
(Unit 1, Quiz#1):
If are reading this page, you are at the right spot. The
Studying Suggestions page should be your starting point for
quiz preparation. The Studying Suggestions will often
provide more specific information about your upcoming quiz
than merely looking at a quiz from the 1994 or 1997 school
year. It is recommended that you always start the review
process by reading this page.
This week's quiz is
tentatively scheduled for Friday, September 1. The quiz will
be a one-page quiz, covering both sides of a single sheet of
paper. The equation for average speed, average velocity, and
average acceleration will be provided. Other than a
calculator, no other helps will be provided nor
allowed. Students can expect the following concepts, skills,
and problem-types to be assessed on this quiz:
- An understanding of average speed and average
velocity and the ability to carry out an average speed or
average velocity calculation.
- An understanding of the terms scalars
and vectors, displacement
and distance, speed
and velocity, and acceleration
and an ability to apply such terms to the motion of
- An ability to use the equation
for acceleration to arrive at a solution to a simple
- An ability to use conversion factors to convert a
specific quantity in one set of units to the same
quantity in a different set of units.
- An ability to associate verbal descriptions of motion
representations and numerical representations.
The following two quizzes are samples of the types of
quizzes given in the past. While this year's quiz might be
similar to these or even contain identical questions, a
student should not expect that this year's quiz will be
exactly the same as those from the past.
