Review Chapter 1 Homework

Intro to Chapter 2 and Mechanics; Kinematics as a description of motion; importance of place and time (where and when)

Read Chapter 2.1; finish Chapter 1 Quiz (due Tuesday at 8 AM)

Suggestions:

Log onto WebAssign and acquire your quiz. Print a copy of the quiz and begin working on it now.

Announcements/Important Info:

Notebooks to be collected on Friday - all chapter 1 labs due

Opening Question: speed, acceleration, fast vs. slow; steady pace vs. getting faster

Picturing Motion Lab; do p. 33, #2-#4 as post-lab questions (PLQs)

Discuss Chapter 2.1 - motion diagrams and particle model diagrams (dot diagrams)

How Fast? Lab (preface with p. 11, paragraph #1 and a discussion of speed)

Discuss importance of coordinate system and origin; look through Chapter 2.2; discuss position as distance from the origin and displacement as the change in position.

Discuss Place and Time practice sheet - consistency of motion diagram, dot diagram, words, data and position-time plots; review calculating slope and writing an equation; discuss meaning of slope.
